If you do a search with that term, you can see images that pretty clearly match the photos I have taken, although the version I was sold was still immature, not fully bulbed out at the bottom. I bought it at the Ann Arbor Westside Market from Dragonwood Farm. Now I am inspired to see what other vegetables are at the market that are new to me! How about for all of you? Please comment if you find one. :-)
DianaDiana Dyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13307130287236271985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7394312676214248679.post-84789736595214015142011-06-06T07:01:30.892-04:002011-06-06T07:01:30.892-04:00Whoops, it is barba di frate. and another name is...Whoops, it is barba di frate. and another name is agrettiNancy Kennedyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09828824045440434294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7394312676214248679.post-601412649046919922011-06-06T06:58:34.534-04:002011-06-06T06:58:34.534-04:00I cheated but is it Roscano, also called Barbe de ...I cheated but is it Roscano, also called Barbe de Frita.

http://www.seedsofitaly.com/product/369Nancy Kennedyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09828824045440434294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7394312676214248679.post-61494979880694363952011-06-05T22:11:40.595-04:002011-06-05T22:11:40.595-04:00Cardoon?Cardoon?Maggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00442002530901345199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7394312676214248679.post-88718376214487173432011-06-05T19:31:17.704-04:002011-06-05T19:31:17.704-04:00Well, I give up. (the leaves do look like the photo of the scorzonera leaves...) Looking forward to you telling us what it actually is.Katerihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05645403612156172760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7394312676214248679.post-4247548503881992212011-06-05T17:30:46.128-04:002011-06-05T17:30:46.128-04:00PS I abandoned parsnips because I think their fol...PS I abandoned parsnips because I think their foliage is feathery, like a carrot's, although I've never grown parsnips so I'm not sure. I know they're in the same family.Singing in the Darkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06250883948800811553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7394312676214248679.post-37157257680115149212011-06-05T17:29:42.650-04:002011-06-05T17:29:42.650-04:00One more guess -- maybe more Italian but I'm n...One more guess -- maybe more Italian but I'm not sure about that -- kohlrabi.

I think that's all I have :)Singing in the Darkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06250883948800811553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7394312676214248679.post-32789286372211139372011-06-05T17:16:20.872-04:002011-06-05T17:16:20.872-04:00My guess -- which is more than a guess -- is parsn...My guess -- which is more than a guess -- is parsnips. Yes, no? I wouldn't think of their foliage as being peppery because the roots are so sweet, but I've never eaten the foliage. And I don't think of it as Italian, but I wouldn't know about that either, I guess!Singing in the Darkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06250883948800811553noreply@blogger.com
