Fall Farewell Newsletter

Here is the last farm newsletter for 2012 along with a list to links of all the newsletters I wrote for our farm in 2012 (I just found this!).

Now on to planting our garlic for 2013, but first, i.e. today, we really need to finish the harvest of our family garden. A good (bad) frost is expected tonight, so we need to keep focusing on bringing in our own food rather than what we need to plant for our income in 2013. Where to spend our time is always a balancing act!

Off to the garden!

Cultivate your life - you are what you grow (and freeze, can, or dry) - inch by inch, row by row,

Hope you were able to get your harvest in before the frost. We had 15 degrees here in Montana yesterday, but I picked my remaining kale earlier in the week got it into the freezer for winter eating. My fridge is also stuffed with salad greens.

I had a question about your garlic tomatillo salsa recipe. Can it be made with frozen tomatillos? Do you just put them under the broiler frozen, as you would with the fresh?

I never did get around to trying it last year with frozen tomatillos, even though I bought some just for that purpose. So that is my goal this year with all my frozen tomatillos. I expect that broiling them frozen will work good enough! Please let me know your experience. Brrr, 15 degrees is cold. Thanks for subscribing to our farm newsletter. I do enjoy writing it. :)
